Chandigarh Police held 1,400 awareness drives in 2025
Chandigarh: Under its Samavesh initiative, Chandigarh Police conducted over 1,400 awareness programmes in 2025, reaching more than 61,000 people. The drives aimed to educate and empower women, children, senior citizens and youth on safety and legal issues, including cyber security, trafficking and new criminal laws.

Sessions were held in schools, colleges, parks and residential colonies. Police also organised 162 self-defence camps for women and girls, training 9,255 participants to tackle situations like snatching, eve-teasing and assault.To ensure senior citizens' safety, police station staff made 9,590 visits to their homes and categorised them into three groups — living alone, couples living alone and those with family. An e-Beat Book maintains a database of those living alone.The force also intensified its anti-drug campaign, holding 305 awareness camps that reached 14,770 people. During Dussehra, effigies carried messages promoting the "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan."Police conducted 137 campaigns to familiarise citizens with three new criminal laws and achieved swift convictions in cases of public drinking and nuisance under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Some offenders were sentenced to community service at gaushalas and old-age homes.Under the Cyber Swachhta Mission, 98 sessions in schools and colleges educated 24,751 students on safe digital practices.
